Originally opened under the control of the Somerset Central Railway, Polsham was the only intermediate station on the short single line Glastonbury to Wells branch, consisting of a single platform some 200 feet in length with a single storey brick built office at the Glastonbury end of the platform. Adjacent to this was a two storey Station Masters House built in the 1920s. There was also a level crossing at this end of the station.
Opposite the station platform on the down side of the line was a siding

Control of the crossing gates and siding was from a local ground frame.
